LIVING ARCHITECTURE: 8 Suites
MANILA, Philippines—It has been more than a year since I wrote my Bed and Breakfast article. Since then, dozens of bed and breakfast places have sprung up in Tagaytay. One of those who carried out the inspiration is upcoming entrepreneur, David Gomez, a senior student at the University of Asia and the Pacific.
As part of the requirements for the completion of his course, his class was tasked to propose a business venture that would serve as their case study. In addition, the students had to execute their business plan and set up the actual venture. With the unflagging support of his parents, Jimmy and Cynthia, David fleshed out his plan and went on to build the dream business he had conceptualized. Within the year, Eight Suites, a bed and breakfast hotel in Tagaytay, was born.
The owner envisioned a place for people who are after both peace and quiet, as well as modern luxury. With this in mind, the Gomezes chose a property on the quiet side of Tagaytay, off the main road, on a ridge jutting out just before the Tagaytay Highlands area.
Enthusiasm
From the outset, the Gomez family’s enthusiasm for the project has been clear and unwavering; traits which inspired everyone who helped them make it a reality, including this writer. David was so keen with what he wanted, so it was easy to conceptualize and design the project. With the fantastic view of Taal Lake, year-round cool breezes, and the wide, hilly terrain, you cannot but flow with the beauty of nature; thus, our design revolved around organic architecture.
Organic architecture is basically designing with and for nature. It capitalizes on the potential of its natural surroundings and features. It makes use of materials common to the area and attempts not to overly alter or block the surrounding landscape. So, the good view and the pleasant climate around the property prompted the use of large openings, natural stones and transparent balconies as distinguishing features.
8 bedroom suites
The enterprise is made up of eight spacious bedroom suites, all of which boast of excellent views and luxurious appointments. The Eight Suites experience includes many other relaxing pluses, such as facial massages and a selection of scented soaps. Breakfast or any other in-house meal, as served by the people behind Merk’s Bistro, is likewise a pleasant affair.
The colors of the rooms come from a refreshing palette of earth colors: olive, brown, tan, as well as sophisticated black and clean white. The accouterments are classy and modern, rivaling those of 5-star hotels.
The young owner had a direct hand in the interior design of each room, ensuring a tasteful and modern feel to every one. We made use of corner glass windows, sleek bathroom fixtures, cable railings, unconventional lamps, and unusually positioned tubs. David has so proven his designing ability that some people have already requested him to work on their private homes.
Fulfilling one’s dream is a life-long ambition for many. For David, the accomplishment of Eight Suites is only the beginning. His youth, his many-faceted talents, his drive and commitment will certainly bring him many more dreams come true.
